# Is LotsBusiness Safe? Who Owns the Site, Domain and Google Profile

Yes. You own your website's content and can download it as files, your domain stays registered in your name at your own registrar, and your Google Business Profile lives in your own Google account on Google. If payment lapses, nothing is deleted and your website stays online.

That's the short answer to the question every owner and every agency client should ask before handing their online presence to anyone: if this goes wrong, what do I still have? Below is who owns each part, what happens at hand-over, what happens if you stop paying, and what LotsBusiness does with your data. Every point comes from the LotsTech terms and privacy policy, the LotsBusiness docs, and Google's own Business Profile help, checked on 22 October 2026.

## Who owns what

| What | Where it lives | Who controls it |
|---|---|---|
| **Website content** (texts, photos, pages) | LotsBusiness hosting | You. The terms say you keep ownership of what you create and upload. Download any version as files |
| **Domain name** | Your domain registrar | You. LotsBusiness doesn't sell domains; you connect yours with one DNS record and can remove it whenever you like |
| **Google Business Profile** | Google, in a Google account | Whoever owns it on Google. LotsBusiness creates it in the Google account you connect and posts through that account; Google decides verification |
| **Business email** | LotsMail, on your own domain | The business. It follows the business at hand-over |
| **Website enquiries** | LotsBusiness | The business. The privacy policy names the business as the controller of those messages |
| **Directory listings** | Each directory's own site | You or your agency, who submit them. LotsBusiness tracks progress |
| **Free LotsBusiness listing** | The LotsBusiness directory | The business owner. It stays even if you stop paying |

The rule of thumb: what LotsBusiness hosts, you can take with you. What belongs to another company (your registrar, Google, each directory) sits in your name there, not ours.

## Your website: yours to download and take

The LotsTech terms say you retain ownership of all content you create or upload. LotsBusiness gives you the files too: download any version of your site as a zip, the live one by default.

Every version is kept. If a change goes wrong, roll back to an earlier one. A quality and safety check runs before anything is published, so a broken page or a script from an unknown site can't go live by accident.

## Your domain: registered in your name, not ours

LotsBusiness doesn't sell domain names. You buy yours from any registrar, in your own account, and connect it to your site with one DNS record. That means:

- **The registration is always yours.** We never hold it, so we can never keep it.
- **Leaving is one record.** Point that record at another host, or disconnect the domain in LotsBusiness.
- **Email follows the domain.** Business email runs on your own domain, so the address customers know is yours.

If an agency registered your domain in its own registrar account, ask them to move it into your name. My guide to [client sign-off and hand-over](https://lots.business/blog/client-sign-off-and-website-handover) covers how that change works.

## Your Google Business Profile: owned on Google, by you

Your Google Business Profile is Google's, not ours. When you create one through LotsBusiness, it's created in the Google account you connect, so that account owns it on Google. If you link a profile you already have, LotsBusiness checks with Google that your connected account is an owner or manager first. Either way, the profile stays on Google whatever happens to your LotsBusiness plan.

Google's own rules on who controls a profile, from its help pages checked on 22 October 2026:

- **Owners and managers.** A profile can have several owners but only one primary owner. Managers can do almost everything owners can (edit info, respond to reviews, manage posts) except add or remove users and remove the profile.
- **Add someone.** In your Business Profile, select **More**, then **Business Profile settings**, then **People and access**. Select **Add**, enter their email, choose **Owner** or **Manager** and select **Invite**.
- **Make someone primary owner.** In **People and access**, select the person, select **Edit** next to "Access", choose **Primary owner** and **Save**. Only the primary owner can transfer primary ownership.
- **The 7-day wait.** Someone who has just become an owner or manager must wait 7 days before they can make anyone primary owner, remove other users or delete the profile.
- **Each person uses their own Google account,** so nobody has to share a password.

**If someone else holds your profile,** for example a former web person, Google lets you request ownership: go to business.google.com/add, find your business and select **Request access**. The current owner has 3 days to respond; if they don't, you may get the option to claim the profile. For a service-area business with no shop or office, Google asks you to contact its support instead.

## When an agency hands the business over to you

If an agency set up your business in LotsBusiness, a hand-over moves the business record, its website and its connected domains to your own LotsBusiness account. You sign in with the email the agency entered, choose which of your workspaces receives it, and accept. From then on your plan pays for it, and the agency's access ends, unless you agree to keep them on as a manager. You decide that when you accept, and you can remove them later.

Two parts sit outside LotsBusiness, so check them on hand-over day:

1. **Google.** Ask the agency to make you primary owner of the Business Profile on Google. Then open the business's Google tab in LotsBusiness, connect your Google account and click **Use my Google account**. LotsBusiness checks with Google that you manage the profile, and from then on posts go through your account, not the agency's.
2. **The domain.** Make sure the registration is in your name at a registrar you can log in to.

The [full hand-over guide](https://lots.business/blog/client-sign-off-and-website-handover) has every step for agencies.

## What happens if payment lapses

This is where most people get nervous, so here are the exact cases, from the LotsTech terms, privacy policy and LotsBusiness pricing page.

- **Your plan or credits run out.** Nothing is deleted and your website stays online. Editing, publishing, Google posts and email setup pause until you add a plan or credits again. Your free listing always stays. Business email pauses too; stored mail isn't deleted.
- **You choose to stop paying for a business.** Its website goes offline, but nothing is deleted, and the free directory listing stays, so you can make it paid again later.
- **You archive a business.** It goes offline and leaves the directory, nothing is deleted, and you can restore it for 30 days.

In every case your domain is still yours at your registrar, and your Google profile is still yours on Google.

## What LotsBusiness does with your data

From the LotsBusiness section of the LotsTech privacy policy, checked on 22 October 2026:

- **Your business record is public by design.** It powers your free listing and, for paid businesses, your website, Google posts and email. Don't put anything in it you wouldn't show customers.
- **Used only to provide the service.** No selling your data, no advertising use.
- **Who helps us:** Supabase stores the data; Cloudflare hosts the app and the websites and counts page views without cookies; Resend delivers contact-form and notification emails; Google receives data only when you connect a Business Profile.
- **Website enquiries.** Messages from your contact form are stored and emailed to you. You're the controller of those messages. To limit spam, we keep a salted hash of the sender's IP address, never the address itself.
- **Takedowns.** We can take down a site used for phishing, malware, impersonation or illegal content, and anyone can report one at lots.business/report.

## Who can change your business

- **Roles.** Your team gets admin, manager or viewer roles, with unlimited team members. An agency can give a client access to their own business only.
- **Approval before going live.** An agency can send you an approval link to review a draft site or your business details without an account. Your answer is recorded against the version you saw, and nothing is published by it.
- **Your AI assistant asks first.** LotsBusiness works with the AI agent you already use, if you choose to connect one: you sign in once on the [connect page](https://lots.business/mcp), with no key to copy. The assistant works within your role, shows a preview, and asks before publishing, posting to Google or stopping payment for a business. You don't need one; everything works in the dashboard.

## FAQ

### Is LotsBusiness safe to use for my business?

Yes. Your website content is yours and you can download it as files, your domain stays registered in your name, and your Google Business Profile lives in your own Google account. If payment lapses, nothing is deleted and your website stays online. Your data is used only to provide the service and is never sold.

### Who owns my website on LotsBusiness?

You do. The LotsTech terms say you keep ownership of the content you create and upload, and you can download any version of your site as a zip.

### Do I own my domain if I use LotsBusiness?

Yes. LotsBusiness doesn't sell domains. You register yours with any registrar in your own name and connect it with one DNS record. To leave, you change that record. If an agency registered it for you, ask them to move it into your name.

### Who owns my Google Business Profile?

Whoever owns it on Google. A profile created through LotsBusiness is created in the Google account you connect, so that account owns it. If an agency set it up, ask them to make you primary owner under People and access in your Business Profile, then switch LotsBusiness posting to your own Google account.

### What happens if I stop paying for LotsBusiness?

If your plan or credits run out, nothing is deleted and your website stays online; editing, publishing, Google posts and email setup pause until you pay again. If you choose to stop paying for a business, its website goes offline but nothing is deleted. Your free listing stays either way.

### Can I leave LotsBusiness and take everything with me?

Yes. Download your site's files, point your domain somewhere else, and keep your Google Business Profile, which was always on Google. Business email runs on your own domain, so you can move it to another provider.
